After a devastating electrical fire in 2011, this family-owned restaurant was all but destroyed. After an outpouring of support from the community, the owners used this an opportunity to simultaneously renovate the hundred-year old building and update their brand.

CHALLENGE: Designing a brand that stays true to what their loyal customers have come to love while expressing the updated direction they’re taking.

SOLUTION: Using the theme of a Phoenix rising from the ashes, we designed a new logo and website that reflects their history as well as their updated restaurant branding.

RESULTS: Since the fire, the Old Stein has brought back amazing Chef Ian Douglas. Last year, they celebrated their 30th anniversary and were written up by The Washington Post for the first time and named one of the most memorable meals (in a good way) of 2013 by the Baltimore Sun. They are busier than ever and are planning new ways of expanding their catering services—Oktoberfest To Go!
